This is the perfect base to any custard apple smoothie. Get the low-down on nutritional benefits of enjoying a custard apple a day while they are in season.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup custard apple pulp

Options to try:

  • 750g custard apples pulp
  • 3 cups chopped onion
  • 3 lemons, grated and juices
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup raisins
  • ½ cup currents
  • 2 tablespoon mustard seeds
  • 2 teaspoon allspice
  • ¾ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 cups apple cider vinegar

Method

  • In a heavy based saucepan, combine the custard apple with chopped onion.
  • Peel the lemons with a vegetable peeler to make fine strips. Add custard apple mixture along with the juice and pulp of the lemons (seeds removed) and all the remaining ingredients.
  • Bring mixture to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer for approximately 1 hour, stirring occasionally to make sure the mixture doesn’t burn.
  • When liquid has evaporated and mixture has a glazed look it will be ready for bottling.
